Bob Newell is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a retired electrical engineer who has returned to writing after a long hiatus. For over sixteen years he has written a weekly blog about the game of checkers (checkermaven.com) and has written more checker-related fiction than anyone in the history of English literature.
Bob has published several books of fiction, the novels Courting Jane and Hānai, and the collection Mr. Darcy Plays Draughts and Other Stories. He has had numerous Hawaiian themed stories published in various Hawaiian anthologies. He has several more stories and novels in preparation, including the French-language novel Le Dernier Couple.
Bob is active in cultural activities in the city of Honolulu, where he is founder and Regional Coordinator of the Hawai`i Region of the Jane Austen Society of North America, directs adult and scholastic chess tournaments for the Hawai`i Chess Federation, and leads the Waikiki Word Wranglers critique group.
The Voyages of Admiral Grey is another of Bob’s serialized stories.
Bob lives in a high-rise condo in Waikīkī, in the city of Honolulu, on the island of O`ahu in the State of Hawai`i.
